Sehr geehrter Herr Neumann,
da Sie mir einen freundlichen Brief zu Ihrem Büchlein geschrieben haben, möchte ich Sie nicht ohne Antwort lassen.
Weil ich kein Historiker bin, will ich mich hier nicht auf Ihre Thesen, und d. h. eigentlich die Hauptmasse Ihrer Schrift einlassen, wenn ich sie persönlich auch – verzeihen Sie bitte – abenteuerlich finde. Ich muss das trotz Ihres unverkennbaren Fleißes und Ihrer Belesenheit sagen.
Ich kann und will mich nur als systematischer Theologe äußern, und das in dieser Perspektive kurz zur Hauptsache.
(1)Dass Sie die Gottesfrage mit der Begründung, „Gott“ sei, wissenschaftlich gesehen, nur eine Hypothese, unberücksichtigt lassen, verwickelt Sie in einen sachlichen Widerspruch. Wie kann eine Untersuchung ihrem Gegenstand wissenschaftlich angemessen sein (auch schon historisch), wenn sie das maßgebliche Selbstverständnis der Texte, um die es geht, restlos ausklammert?
(In diesem Zusammenhang ist auch z. B. Ihre unbefangene Rede von „Mythos“ oder von „Ideologie“ wissenschaftlich problematisch.) Sie blenden die ganze Problemdimension religiöser Texte als solcher aus. (Methodischer „Atheismus“ ist an sich zwar möglich; aber selbst bei Heidegger (Sein und Zeit) wird daneben das Eigenrecht der Theologie anerkannt. Ist übrigens für Sie auch die Philosophie „unwissenschaftlich“?) Dies anders gewendet:
(2)Indem Sie im Namen der „Wissenschaftlichkeit“ das zentrale Thema religiöser Texte eliminieren, begehen Sie den logischen Fehler einer petitio principi. Sie setzen undiskutiert genau das schon voraus, was nach seiner Möglichkeit bzw. Berechtigung erst zu erweisen gewesen wäre.
Damit beschädigen Sie aber den Anspruch auf Wissenschaftlichkeit Ihrer Arbeit. Ohne einlässliche Kritik an dem theologischen Zugang zu den Texten können Sie nicht so verfahren, wie Sie es tun.
Sie sehen, ich vermisse in dieser systematischen Hauptsache sachhaltige Argumente, die Ihren Weg hätten wissenschaftlich legitimieren können. „Dogmatische“ Simplifikationen der Problematik reichen (mir) nicht. …
